Power Pickup for PF Motors

Many members in our club are very excited with Sage Railworks, a Belgium LEGO® train fan, who has merged “O” scale wheels with spring loaded contacts and his own ingenuity to make power pick up off of metal 9V train track for Power Function (PF) motors, which are typically powered by batteries.  The LEGO® Group switched from metal track and motors with built in power pickup to PF motors and completely plastic track about six years ago (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Trains for more information on the history).  For groups such as the Calgary LEGO® Train Club, metal track is very important as we would consume too many batteries over the span of a multi-day show.

SuperTrain 2013

A quick update…. the Calgary LEGO Train Group won first place at SuperTrain 2013 for Best Fun Display.  Our members also won this last year as well, which we are quite proud of.

We just want to take a moment to thank the SuperTrain organizing committee for all their effort to put on an outstanding show, all the volunteers, and many, many spectators who asked so many neat and fun questions.

Thanks again….

LEGO® Community Team

Kevin Hinkle mentioned the Calgary LEGO® Train Club on his weekly BLOG, welcoming us to the LEGO® community.  Most of us have been involved with other LEGO® clubs in the past, so it is not entirely new… but his warm welcome was very much appreciated.
